My Mission today is...
I'm determined to see "Big Fish" either today or tomorrow, even if I have to drag a less-than-enthusiastic friend with me. There's no guarantee she'll like this movie, and another friend would rather take us to see "School of Rock" (amusing movie but I'd rather not see it again instead of "Big Fish"). So I have some arguing to do.
Oh, and while channel-surfing yesterday (I never knew it could do so much good) I stumbled across another Johnny Depp movie. Unfortunately it was "Blow," a depressing drug flick where he wears a hideous blond wig and a fat suit. (Perish the thought.) I'm not even going to try to find a pic from that movie to put up here.
Enough of my rambling...I have to go feed the turtle.

Defining it
I finally overcame my laziness and looked up the meaning of the word used to describe Mr. Depp.
metrosexual : An urban male with a strong aesthetic sense who spends a great deal of time and money on his appearance and lifestyle.
Well, I suppose that's not too bad. He's got to have some kind of aesthetic(ally pleasing) thing going on to look like this:
But I still don't like the word. It's just silly, and if my first reaction is any indication, it has a slightly negative connotation.

Quiz Time
Here I go again...this came from Monday Madness.
1. The one kitchen appliance I just could not live without is my _______.
Refridgerator...gotta have someplace to put all that food. (Unless your fridge is Apocalyptic...if you have no idea what I'm talking about, read this comic I heard about from Andrea. It's hilarious.
2. My desk always looks like _______.
A national disaster.
3. The clocks in my house are always ____ minutes fast.
Five to ten.
4. The one television program I just can't stand is _______.
I've never even seen Law and Order, but it's on at least one channel for each hour of the day and it drives me mad.
5. The one television program I try to never miss is _______.
Friends, especially since it's ending in March (?).
6. When it comes to housework, I really hate cleaning ________.
The turtle tank. It would be far worse not to, however.
7. If I could re-design my living room, the first thing I would do is _______.
Make it bigger--more wallspace for posters and other assorted items usually displaying the faces of musicians.
8. I wish I had a bigger ______ in my house.
Bed.
9. When someone points a camera at me and says 'Smile!' I usually ________.
Run for cover.
Huh...CNN just called Johnny Depp a "metrosexual". Hmm...ok...I don't like the sound of that. Anybody out there have a dictionary for stupid-sounding modern words?

Brief Hello...
I really only have 3 things to say today.
1) I have to see "Big Fish". If I don't I'll feel very left out and just generally sad.
2) Johnny Depp didn't win a Golden Glode award, and that is rather unfair. It makes me just generally angry.
3) I like Elvis Costello's music. A lot. Like I've said, it's a bit of a far cry from the dreamy, plaintive ballads of Justin Hayward, and that's why I find it so weird that I can't get enough of his songs lately. (Andrea, have I thanked you yet?)
So far my favourite is "New Amsterdam". I mean...
"...Till I speak double dutch to a real double duchess..."
How brilliant is that wordplay?

Sigh Ok, my brief episode of liking Cable is at an end. Johnny Depp is nowhere to be found on the TV this week. And if he's not in any movies that are coming on, why even bother to watch TV at all?
And before I start spouting things like "Justin who?" I think I'll pay tribute...here's something from a magazine. Justin Hayward:
I wanna go Depp! Uhhh...I meant "Deep", Justin. Really. Really I did...

Ninth Gate
This movie wasn't all that wonderful. The acting was just OK, and the plot was OK but not quite believable. Then why did I watch it, you might ask?
That pic speaks for itself. And I found this movie by channel surfing! Channel surfing pays off, I tell you. It was worth sitting through this movie just to stare at you-know-who. Odd for that to be one of its only redeeming qualities, because I usually like this genre.
"Dead Man" is coming back on the Independent Film Channel in a few minutes. So if you'll excuse me, I have an appointment with Mr. Depp.

Dead Man
You know, I really wish I'd seen this movie from the beginning. It probably would have made a heck of a lot more sense that way. So why did I watch it to begin with? Because I happened to see this guy on the screen:
Channel surfing pays off. That is your proof.
The movie was a little off-beat...well no, really off-beat. This can be a good thing, and generally was here; my only major complaint would be about the long, lingering shots. The movie could get kinda slow at times (especially when it wasn't Johnny on the screen). It was extremely fascinating, though, and sometimes disturbing (because it's an independent film, I would guess). I'll just have to rent it from the video store to see what happened in the beginning, once whoever checked it out finally returns it! I'd like to see the whole Indian-transformation thing explained a little better...which hopefully will be somewhere in the first half. But you never know with these kinds of movies.
And by the way..."Pirates of the Caribbean" won Best Movie of the Year in the People's Choice awards, not that those awards matter, but I was happy anyway. I can't believe it won over "Finding Nemo" and "Lord of the Rings". It's all thanks to Johnny, you know.

Guess what? Yeah...another Quiz
1. Fave milkshake flavour...
Strawberry banana
2. Dessert - prefer to share or have your own? Share?! Of course not. Unless Justin is around and willing to wear chocolate syrup.
3. Fave appetizer...
Um...chocolate syrup? ;)
4. Weirdest pizza topping...
Jellybeans...I swear I heard somehwere that people like to eat those things on pizza. Chocolate syrup, however, is weirder (if anyone actually does that).
5. How you like your steak done?
medium well....although I don't really see a point to this question. And I can't work "chocolate syrup" into the answer.
Today was quite possibly one of the worst of my life. But now I'm a little bit happier, since I have some Elvis Costello CDs to look forward to. His music is so much better than the Moody Blues to listen to on bad days. Good days too, but since today was a bad day, I just thought I'd mention that fact.

Yet another Quiz
I got this from Andrea because, well, it's just a good quiz.
1. What was the last song that you listened to?
Justin Hayward- "Face in the Crowd" from Night Flight (although "Crimes of Paris" won't get out of my head, and has been in there for about 3 days straight)
2. What was the last album you bought?
The Moody Blues "December" and sadly that was in October. I got Elvis Costello's "My Aim is True" as a gift a while ago.
3. Are there any albums or songs you plan on getting soon?
Two words: Elvis Costello. (I will take you up on that offer to help me there, Andrea, if you still will...)

Moodies are all around
"For My Lady" came on in a little restaurant I was in tonight, giving my terrible day a moderately nice end.
And I had to listen to Elvis Costello all day long to cheer me up too, because generally the Moodies will depress me further (like I said earlier). I guess sometimes they don't..."For my Lady" doesn't, anyway. Must be cos it's a Ray song. Justin is a heartbreaking romantic, and Ray can't compare to that level of tearjerking.
And it's sad, but I only just today noticed the huge similarity between the "I Want You" on Blood & Chocolate and Lennon's "I Want You" on Abbey Road. I'm supposed to notice these things, especially when involving the Beatles!! Oh well..."I Want You" is still a great song (Elvis's I mean). A really great song. It's so simple yet sooo powerful.
OK...it's too late for me to be trying to think coherently. Good night.

Think Happy Thoughts
Ok...one more post. One that's a little bit happier. And speaking of so-called "happy thoughts"...some friends dragged me off to see the new Peter Pan movie the other day. Pretty sets, but the story's sort of been done already...
Now this is a real happy thought...someone else in my tiny town is an actual Moody Blues fan!!! I was eating in a little coffee house this weekend listening (against my will) to the guitar player who does a lot of Beatles songs (but never does them justice). I was trying to block him out so I didn't notice the acoustic beginning of "The Story in Your Eyes" (fortunately my friend told me he was playing it).
So I sorta had to put money in his guitar case. He noticed and played "Have You Heard (part 2)"--a Mike Pinder song from On the Threshold of a Dream, and a rather odd choice--and then "Lovely to See You". The guitar work was ok...but I can do it better. >:) Yes, I'm a guitar player too, for those wondering.

Back at Last
I'm so lazy...but I'm gonna update now. Really.
Quiz
If you can kill one person of the mentioned category, who will it be and why?
1. Pop artist: Probably someone like Jessica Simpson, who everyone thinks can sing but can't, and has become famous simply because they are infamously slow-witted. I really don't see the talent here, can you?
2. A comedian: I don't really know of many comedians. There is a girl on SNL who is really really not funny, but I don't care enough to find out her name.
3. A TV host: Oh geez...I don't know that many TV hosts either. Let's just skip this question.
4. A political man: Dubya...you know who I mean.
5. Someone you know online: some Moody Blues fans 'n' such who seem to have superiority complexes, but I don't actually "know" them personally. Which is probably fortunate.
This has been sort of a bitter post. How depressing...

Happy 2004
My first act of the new year was to watch "Pirates of the Caribbean" for the 7th time. But it's not just the fault of my craziness--a friend wanted to see it. (Incidentally...it was her 7th time too.)
I guess I should be making some resolutions. Right now my only important one is to see the Moody Blues at least one time this year. Oh, and I'd like to get a close-up picture for once, so I'll have to do my best to sneak around the venues prior to the show. That's never actually worked for me, but it has for countless other people I know. Maybe if I carry around some rabbits' feet and four-leaf clovers...cos nothing short of miraculous good luck is going to help me.
Another resolution is: to see the movies I want to see before they leave theatres. Right now the movie at the top of my list is "Big Fish"...I wonder if it's out yet?
And finally...I resolve to give THIS the drool, love, attention, etc. it deserves:

Watch "The Young Ones", 80's BBC show, and wish they'd made more than 12 episodes.
Drool over wonderful King of America cover.
Kidnap Elvis AND Justin Lodgey AND Paul to preserve sanity and ward off post-concert depression.
Pretty much try to stay in a constant state of confusion (like Johnny Depp) just because of the expression it leaves on my face.
Protest War
(feeling a little ambitious, are we?)
