Excuse to use Smilies
Whenever I try to burn a CD , I have to do this . I'm not sure why. Maybe this is happening. I've already thrown one CD away today. I highly doubt I'll get my Mix done. So no one I'm sending it to will get to it for a while.

Running with Scissors
I finally saw Edward Scissorhands yesterday--I love this movie! It pained me to have to return it to the video store, it really did. I didn't expect to even like Johnny Depp in this...how silly of me to doubt him. I was actually going to watch the whole thing with the director's commentary, but it was already overdue. Next stop...Wal-Mart!!
I also saw this movie on the same day I (finally) finished reading "Big Fish." I liked it too--it was worth reading--although I ended up picturing everything like the movie, with those visually arresting, colourful Tim Burton sets. Actually Edward Scissorhands was the epitome of that, with the bright suburban cars and houses.
I have yet to burn the Life Soundtrack mix, because according to all my so-called sources, Julian Lennon does not exist. That song of his is unavailable wherever I look. I think I'll have to give in and just replace that song with "I Melt With You" by Modern English. My mix needed more 80's anyway. I think I ought to do something about all the back-to-back Elvis Costello tracks, but I'm too lazy to change anything else. Think I should try to spread them out more?

So There is Justice in the World
I can't believe my Johnny won Best Actor in the SAG awards! (Oops...did I say "my Johnny"? How overly sentimental...) At least his fellow actors can recognise his genius. And he wasn't even there! Since there's virtually no way he can win the Oscar, I'll be happy with this. Sean Penn's had enough recognition; he didn't need this (besides, he annoys me). Heck, I'd still be happy if Bill Murray won the Oscar.
I spent Sunday afternoon trying to do this Life Soundtrack CD mix that I got from The Music Whore herself. Problem is, most of my songs are by the same people, and a lot of those are right next to eachother, making this a pretty boring mix. As for the ones that aren't, I don't even have copies of some of them. (So * means I don't have it...)

Unconscious Mutterings
I thought I'd try this game today. I think the gist of it is you're supposed to say whatever each word instantly reminds you of. Could be fun, I guess.
- Angel:: Justin Hayward
- Birth:: babies
- Logic:: Mr. Spock
- Stars:: looking at Orion yesterday
- Nursery:: um...babies?
- View:: The View from the Hill
- Hart:: Boyce and Hart (wrote songs for the Monkees)
- Creation:: God
- End:: "The End of the Line"
- Fortune:: "I've been thinking 'bout our fortune..."
Now to go look for Mr. Depp on the Screen Actors Guild Awards. They showed him a while ago hugging his fans. *growls jealously*
I must also listen further to Elvis Costello...I now have Get Happy and Punch The Clock on vinyl. Would've preferred CD, but all my friend had was the record versions.
Oh, and remember that guy who thought that, because I keep listening to the aforementioned singer, I needed to "broaden my horizons"? I wanted to slaughter him the other day when he overheard me discussing Johnny Depp with a friend (okay, so that discussion was mainly "Johnny Depp is hot" and "Yes, he is"). This guy started to criticize him, saying things like, "Oh, he's crazy, he's not all there". It's none of his business what musicians and actors I like, anyway. I don't even know him.
I can't stand it when strangers do that. My all-time worst moment with a stranger was when some woman noticed my apparently loving looks towards a picture of Justin Hayward and snapped, "Isn't he a little old?" Unfortunately, my comeback was "um, well, you see...."
Ok- Rant ended. Have a nice day. :D
I suppose I'll just take the advice of Mr. Costello and "let them all talk".

I'm Not Angry...Just a Little Annoyed
I should stop using this blog as a place to complain...but, oh well! Here I go again.
I'm very proficient at wasting every last bit of my time. When I could be doing something productive, I go on the computer instead. Some of the things I do on the computer are all fine and good, mind you--but when I've gotten everything good taken care of I go to pointless message boards that I should really abandon...but I stay because of the few friends I have there. The not-so-nice people vastly outnumber the friendly ones in some of these places.
Now I have to catch up on all my reading...I'm very far behind in a few books called Big Fish, Man Out of Time, and No Quarter. The latter of those is extremely intriguing--it takes place in a world where every person's spirit is a living being called a "kigh". When a person dies, their kigh leaves them--but obviously there's a villain who tries to ruin all of this by putting people's kigh back into their bodies after they've died, creating, essentially, the walking dead.
Now, a living person can't see the walking dead, because their spirits "turn away", as it's such a dreadful, unnatural sight. That's very convenient. I know of certain people who, for their appearances, may as well be called the walking dead. I wish I had a kigh spirit that could shield my eyes whenever I accidentally end up looking at those zombie-like people. The poor people they're married to could probably use some good kigh themselves. But alas, that advantage only belongs in the fantasy world of Tanya Huff.

Freaked Out Ummm...I've just seen something quite strange. Why does Justin Hayward pose with his daughter as if they're a newlywed couple? I mean...she's sitting in his lap, wearing a mini-skirt. And they both have such moony-eyed expressions. Well, Justin does. His daughter has more of a serious, romance-novel-cover look. I hate to say it (and I mean this, I really don't like to say it), but they don't make such a bad couple.
Back to more normal things.
Why can I not get through the day without posting some form of Johnny Depp?

Lost in the Snow
Just for the record, I'm snowbound again. I think the computer is going to be getting a great deal of attention from me today. Problem is, I'm not finding anything I search for. Come on, someone out there has to have screen captures of Johnny Depp on Inside the Actors Studio, and Elvis Costello guitar tab must exist somewhere...
Since I'm completely stuck, I've sent a friend out to brave the snow and bring me back Edward Scissorhands. Last time I tried this, they came back with Lost in Translation instead. Actually, that was a brilliant movie that you should all see (if you don't mind the slightly slow-paced style of independent films). I hadn't seen much of Bill Murray before, but now I think I probably ought to. Incidentally, when I turned off the movie, the director was on David Letterman, so that was interesting--and I got to see a hilarious clip of Bill Murray dancing to "Alison". (Poor Elvis, getting his songs butchered in that film.)
Ok...the point is, I'm crossing my fingers that I'm going to get to see Edward Scissorhands today instead of some random movie my friend takes a fancy to.

Another Quiz...and it's pretty
| You Are Ichabod Crane From "Sleepy Hollow."
You're a deep thinker - most times logically. You're a bit of a neat freak and a wuss (hey, you do faint a lot!) but you do have the ability to overcome your fears and come out stronger in the end. And you never lose your head over things. (Gufaw gufaw!) |
Take The Johnny Depp Quiz!
Too bad I've never seen this movie.

More Grievances
One more reason that I'm annoyed today.
Another Guy (who I barely know, staring at my headphones): What are you listening to?
Me: Elvis Costello...
Guy: Again?! You really like Elvis Costello, don't you?
Me: Um, yeah, I guess I--
Guy: You need to listen to some other stuff. Broaden your horizons. Why don't you listen to Paul McCartney sometime?
Ok, that just annoyed me because I was practically raised on the Beatles, and I've been paying them special attention lately because of their 40th anniversary of their appearance on the Ed Sullivan show.
Usually I get this lecture from people who know how obsessed I am with the Moody Blues. It's so odd to hear someone have that discussion with me about Elvis Costello.... Andrea, you have succeeded in corrupting me. And I mean that in a good way. :)

Friday the 13th First, another silly quiz. Tuning in... Friday, February 13, 2004 Name a song which… 1. describes how you're feeling right now. "I Hope You're Happy Now"--Elvis Costello 2. tells your lifestory. This is a hard one..."Broken Dream"--Justin Hayward. "Here Comes the Weekend" and "Never Comes the Day" work pretty well too. 3. enables you to work/study/think better. The whole Keys of the Kingdom album (Moody Blues) 4. makes you wanna kill yourself/someone (other than the artist). "Hocus Pocus" by Focus....(you sure I can't kill the artist?) 5. you wanna hear while making sweet lovin'. Oh please...well, ok, "Deep"--The Moody Blues.
Oh and I'm a little annoyed right now. Here's why... Some Guy (who I barely know, leaning down to look at my keychain): Is that Sting? Me: No. It's one of the Moody Blues. Guy: Oh, that's right. You like the Moody Blues. But what about Pink Floyd?? Me: They're all right. Guy: Moody Blues music gets boring after a while, I think. It just gets boring. Me: Gee, thanks.
First of all, why does every-freakin-body think Justin Hayward looks like Sting? VS
I don't think so. There's a substantial difference here if you care to look.
Of course, one time a guy thought Justin was Johnny Cash. *sigh....*
And I get to spend tomorrow (Valentine's Day) with...uh...pictures of Justin. And pictures of Johnny Depp. Yeah, that's a lot better than spending it with anyone I know in real life.

Let it...snow?
It's too bad there are only three seasons where I live. There is no spring; winter just keeps dragging on until summer. I don't know if I can take that much more of winter--that much more of being stuck inside all day watching Macgyver and eating canned ravioli.
On another note, I was happy for a brief moment when I learned that a few of Justin Hayward's solo albums are being re-released with supposed bonus tracks. After all, the one thing I'm always dying to hear from Mr. Hayward is older, unreleased tracks. Sadly, only one track on one of the re-released albums is actually "new" to the public. I suppose the single versions of a couple of songs will be interesting to hear, but it's not what I expected. The other "bonus tracks" were included on the US versions of the CDs, anyway. False advertising is such a let-down.
Right now I'm taping Johnny Depp on "Inside the Actor's Studio"...too bad the interviewer is a jerk who I've never liked. But that won't stop me from drooling. I did, however, miss the first 10 minutes. 10 whole minutes of drooling, lost....Boo-hoo....

Another Rambling
Here's a question I got from The Wednesday Wish. What historical event do you wish you could have been present for?
I don't know if this counts as an "historical" event, but something I definitely wish I could have seen is a Moody Blues concert from the 70's, their supposed heyday. Nothing against their shows of the present, but most of those are all alike--same setlist, same sound.
Most concerts from the 70's also had the advantage of not having such heavy security, and that's a concept very hard to imagine today. Imagine not being forced away from the stage the second you take a step forward, not having your cameras confiscated, not having the band be totally unapproachable. I mean, sometimes in the "old days" the band would even visit people's houses for dinner.
Okay, I'm over-simplifying things. 70's concerts had their disadvantages--like the excessive drugs. I'm ignoring what's actually important here. The best part of seeing a concert from that era would be the look and sound of the band as they were then. Actual footage of that is annoyingly rare. Basically, I would just love to see this face in person:
...because even after seeing all these angelic-looking photos, it's still hard to believe that that face could ever belong to a real person.

Mission Accomplished
Yes, I managed to see Big Fish this weekend. It wasn't much of what I expected, but I can safely say it did not disappoint. Although, I must admit it was odd to hear Ewan McGregor with a southern accent.
The highlight of my day actually came about 15 minutes before the movie. It was a trailer for--yeah, you guessed it--Secret Window. There is no way I'm going to miss this one when it comes out--despite the fact that I'm fully aware seeing a Stephen King movie on the big screen is likely to scare me out of my wits. The reasons I'm completely disregarding that fact are as follows:
1. I love movies, and even books, that are about writers. I guess I can relate to them or something.
2. Do you really have to ask?

Watch "The Young Ones", 80's BBC show, and wish they'd made more than 12 episodes.
Drool over wonderful King of America cover.
Kidnap Elvis AND Justin Lodgey AND Paul to preserve sanity and ward off post-concert depression.
Pretty much try to stay in a constant state of confusion (like Johnny Depp) just because of the expression it leaves on my face.
Protest War
