Laziness Prevails
Well, I didn't drive 2 hrs just so I could see that movie. It didn't seem worth it. Ah well, maybe next week. I watched Love Actually on TV last night and it made me feel better. In a half hour I'm going to go see the sequel to Bridget Jones's Diary, because now I'm in a Hugh Grant/Colin Firth kind of mood.
Along those lines I was greatly amused by an article I found while wasting my time on the internet last night, where Elvis Costello said he thought Rene Zellweger looked like a doll in the first movie even though she's 'overweight'. "It's so funny that she's supposed to be overweight and she actually looks fantastic. That proves how mad Hollywood really is." Good on you, Elvis!
Oddly I feel like typing and typing right now when I have less than nothing to talk about. I've done nothing this weekend so I could have a chance to recover from Thanksgiving (which involved screaming, screaming children). I spent the morning watching EC videos. It's funny, but I've known the video for "What's so Funny 'bout (Peace Love & Understanding)" for years, and it used to scare me. It traumatized me. I didn't understand how a skinny little guy with glasses could have such a HUGE voice. And the freaky totem poles didn't help in the trauma area, either. Also, and this is worse, "Every day I Write the Book" used to bug me. I don't even know why. And I'd also seen "The Only Flame in Town" before, but don't remember why or when.
I'm awful. A year ago today I was moping around, having Post-Concert Depression, lamenting my lack of Justin... and listening to Blood & Chocolate all the while. Not the Moodies. I felt guilty then. As of now, I haven't heard a Moodies song in days.

Happy Thanksgiving, world
Tomorrow's a big day--dealing with family, etc. But what I'm really concerned with right now is Friday. I'm going out of town. No, not for the holiday; I'm going at least an hour out of my way to see Finding Neverland.
This town isn't getting the movie. It's not scheduled to come here even on Friday, so I guess we're not getting it at all, even though it's a major picture. This is the first repercussion of our second movie theatre shutting down. We now have one theatre left. And this town calls itself a growing metropolis! (Or something quite like it.) HA!
Well, I have to go download a map to a theatre I've never heard of--all for the love of Johnny! How I love living in this thriving city.
I don't want to sound bitter--Thanksgiving itself is a nice holiday. I'm thankful for family and friends and all those things. But right now I'm just feeling testy, because I'm thankful for Johnny Depp, too, and all those people who've brought a little joy into my life.

For the Sake of Updating...
Ok, I'll try to make an update here. I don't have anything to say right now, so I tried to do a meme, but the theme was celebrities and my answer for every question was Justin Hayward, Elvis Costello, or Johnny Depp.
So how am I going to fill up space?
Here's my insight for the week:
"Brutal Youth" rocks. Everyone on earth should buy the album. Well, except for my best friend, whom it would deeply offend--namely the song "This is Hell".
Here, look at this adorable kid.
I'm assuming this is baby Declan...AWWW. And that's saying something, I guess, as I don't usually think kids are that cute.

I've got three things to be happy about. Little things, but still happy.
1. I finally taped Monkey to Man. Now I can watch it without it being a two-inch square on the computer screen. I've left Vh1 on for a few nights, waiting for them to show it, and I've seen a lot of Duran Duran. I think I'm starting to like them more. I love (Reach Up For the) Sunrise.
2. Finding Neverland comes out on Friday. Need I say more?
3. Elvis's version of You've Got to Hide Your Love Away ought to sustain my happiness for a good while. That was stunning.
Now, a meme, because I've nothing else to say, and I'm late, so I need to get outta here soon.
- Small Talk:: I can't do it to save my life. I once said something like "You know, a lot of movies are shown on TV channels now."
- Evidence:: um...destroy it?
- No strings attached:: I'd like Johnny Depp to show up on my doorstep tomorrow, no strings attached...
I think the rest of these should be based on song lyrics. That will be fun. Maybe.
- Drifting:: "Oh no, don't leave me driftwood on the shore...."
- Hostage:: "But there's one thing I should have said, the hostage will end up dead...."
- Beauty:: "Beauty I'd always missed, with these eyes before...."
- Automatic:: "The automatic gates close up between the shanties and the palace...."
Oh, and here's something that made me smile.
Could those sunglasses be any more like Elvis?

I keep missing VH1 Classic's "current classics" thing. If anyone out there wants to watch until they show Monkey to Man, and tape it for me, I'd pay them.
Anyway.
I was dreading church yesterday. Living where I do, the Bible belt, I'm fairly used to the views of the people here, but when you mix politics into it, it's more than I can stomach. I knew 99% of everyone there would be gloating about the election. I don't care who they support--I'm not going to pass judgment on them for it. But sadly they feel the need to pass judgment on anyone who doesn't share their views.
The big round of applause for Bush "getting back in"... well, I shrugged it off. Without giving names, they've been pretty obvious for months about what outcome they've wanted in the election, and they have it. But saying things like "One of them listens to Heaven; the other doesn't," is just a bit much. I really believe they don't even realise that these things might be offensive to anyone sitting in their congregation. I wouldn't even be there if it wasn't for friends. And if I wasn't there, they would probably have a homogeneous crowd of 100% conservatives. Ah, the bright faces of the little children when they were told who won.
What ever happened to separation of church and state?
Someone please just button my lip.

Watch "The Young Ones", 80's BBC show, and wish they'd made more than 12 episodes.
Drool over wonderful King of America cover.
Kidnap Elvis AND Justin Lodgey AND Paul to preserve sanity and ward off post-concert depression.
Pretty much try to stay in a constant state of confusion (like Johnny Depp) just because of the expression it leaves on my face.
Protest War
(feeling a little ambitious, are we?)
