A Musical Meme
Because Andrea said I should.
What are the first ten random songs on your computer/MP3 player?
1. The MacGyver theme (go figure!)
2. Justin Hayward- acoustic Tuesday Afternoon
3. The Moody Blues- 22,000 Days
4. Eurythmics- Winter Wonderland
5. Elvis Costello- Peace Love & Understanding from Regis & Kelly
6. Elvis Costello- Monkey to Man
7. Justin Hayward- live Forever Autumn
8. Elvis Costello- live Monkey to Man
9. Moody Blues- Veteran Cosmic Rocker
10. Justin Hayward- London is Behind Me
What is the total amount of music files on your computer?
The computer says there are 641, but I look at their list and there are groups missing...
The last CD you bought is:
I ordered 3 at once a few days ago. An odd assortment.
Basher- Nick Lowe
Astronaut- Duran Duran
London Calling- The Clash
What is the song you last listened to before this message?
The radio-on-the-tv thing played Elvis Costello's "The Only Flame in Town," but that can't be my answer because the actual last song they played was "99 Luftballons" by Nena.
Write down five songs you often listen to or that mean a lot to you:
The Moody Blues- Never Comes the Day
Elvis Costello- Couldn't Call it Unexpected no. 4
Justin Hayward- Who Knows
George Harrison- This is Love
Elvis Costello- London's Brilliant Parade
3 people that must do this meme
Uh, I don't know...

Another meme
Now that I'm done singing the praises of Mr. Depp...another meme from Music Memoirs. Cos I seem to be doing a lot of those lately.
Things to ponder...(I can't do the newer meme, cos I'm not a big fan of hard rock.)
In the past year or last 6 months, whatever-
Concerts I saw:
One Moody Blues concert, on June 20. (Yup...I'm sad and pathetic, too.)
Artists that I've been turned on to:
Oh, I guess you could say I've been turned on to Elvis Costello...considering I bought almost all of his albums in the course of one year.
And Duran Duran, due to a CD Mix. I'm going to buy their latest album next chance I get.
I'm also going to buy something by Nick Lowe when I get the money.
Old favorites who are still rocking hard:
That would be The Moody Blues. They're still rocking...currently, on the other side of the country...but still.
Guilty pleasures:
I don't know... Nothing new. But I guess I never can get over those One-hit Wonders of the 80s.

That picture is from the Oscars last year...and he's going back.
It doesn't really matter what his chances are...just getting the nomination is important.
Yay Johnny!

You Little Fool
That title is directed towards myself.
I saw a comment on a website about an hour ago. It compelled me to do something very stupid and wrong. DO NOT trust your judgment at 1 AM.
And here's why.
I did the unthinkable.
I picked up that kiss-and-tell book of sordid affairs, Rebel Heart again.
And read the second section about Elvis Costello that I'd vowed not to even peek at after suffering through the first section of graphic details.
I'm now traumatized, of course. Oddly enough, I almost felt sorry for her when reading about the supposed "abortion." Ok, I'll admit it--I did briefly feel sorry for her.
Of course, then I saw her comments that said (this is almost it, verbatim), "Maybe I would be cured of my love for him once I'd seen how fat and overweight he'd become, his bloated hugeness." GOOD GOD! How can a person say things like that about a person they profess to love? I know I must sound naive here but, isn't exposing all the intimate details of her and his life (not to mention inventing some of those details) enough for her?
Never, ever, ever let me pick up that book again. Especially not at any time past midnight.
I just don't understand how someone, even someone who's angry and feeling regretful, could throw such blatant, crass insults at someone they claim to truly love.
Oh, yeah, he still writes songs for someone who betrays the secrets of his entire life by publishing it in a pathetic, vain book. Sure he does. Sure. I think Elvis (but hey, he's not exactly blameless here) sums this up about her better than I could--
"It is a tragic delusion."

Top Five on Friday meme
From Music Memoirs. :D
Top 5 Albums you couldn't live without when you were growing up.
I loved older music, so...in no particular order:
1. Meet the Beatles
2. Monkees- Headquarters
3. Beatles '65 (I loved The Beatles so much, so they deserve two spots in this list)
4. Herman's Hermits- There's a Kind of Hush All Over the World
5. The History of British Rock, vol. 1 (or a compilation called something similar)
OR some 80s compilation (can't recall the name) that I bought a lot later.

Guess what I just did?
I just told a very nice person of the horrible problems in my last post and due to their offer to help, I just bought absurdly expensive tickets to a different show entirely! It's only a state away...erm...not so bad. And the seats are great.
I am insane and poor now but...whatever!
I luv Elvis!
(I might regret this later...)

This is Hell
I can't believe this. Every time I try to buy tickets to a concert, I end up with some crappy problem! Well, here we go again!
The pre-sale for the Elvis Costello concert in my state started today, and when you go to buy tickets, there are no seat numbers. And it says "General Admission."
Maybe this is why the venue has NO seating chart on their website? Maybe this 3000 seater is first-come, first-served?
Why have a pre-sale if the whole thing is freakin' general admission? What Justin Hayward would call "festival seating"?
I'm not the kind of person who goes to a concert 6 hours early to grab a good seat.
How could they do this kind of thing to me AGAIN?

Not again
So I'm having dinner with my friend tonight and she sees this picture....
Friend: Oh, is that that Elvis Costello guy? Me (happily): Yeah. Friend: He looks like...that guy. Me (worried): What guy? Friend: That guy in...in Castaway. Me (cleaning out my ears): Did you say... Castaway? Friend: Yeah, that guy in...The Terminal. Me (really worried): Tom Hanks?? Friend: Yeah! He looks just like Tom Hanks!
Okay...see...I don't find Tom Hanks to be all that attractive. That picture, on the other hand (like most Brutal Youth pix) I find to be quite sexy. So...am I missing something here?
I don't see a resemblance. That is probably not as insane as the time someone thought Justin Hayward was Johnny Cash, though.
Oh, and this picture that I recently found and was excited over,
along with another one I can't find right now, apparently looks like Kevin Spacey.
WTF.

Why me?
I hate this state. Why is this the only state on Elvis Costello's tour that doesn't have a date for ticket sales set yet?
The venue's website doesn't even have an event calendar.
I tried a search for Elvis Costello on the venue's pathetic site, but came up with nothing. Am I going to have to call these people and ask them?
This always happens-- because this state is pathetic. I wish I lived in New York more than a week out of the year. (Still can't believe I missed his special show at Lincoln Center by 3 days last summer...and I was probably in the city the same time he was...but didn't see him...grumble)

Let's try this Music Mambo meme
I'm bored again...and I still don't know why. So I'm going to try this meme as it looks like it could be much fun.
1. What band/s do you look forward to listening this new year?
I would say The Moody Blues but I can't realistically look forward to anything from them. They have an aversion to the studio, apparently.
So, hopefully I will listen to more Duran Duran this year, and all the Elvis Costello I haven't bought yet (that's not very much now).
2. What band/s are you looking forward to a new album from?
The only artist I know of, who I like enough to mention, who claims to have a new album in the works is Paul McCartney.
3. If you could go to any concert this year who would you see and why?
Elvis Costello, hands down, since I've never seen him in concert and I like to see all my new obsessions at least once. He's even coming to my state: a cause for celebration.
4. If there was one band you wish would get back together this year who would they be and why?
I don't know about this one. The one band that's not together now that I would like to see is The Beatles, but that's impossible, so....
5. Last but not least and this is totally unrelated to the future, but type up a couple lines of your favorite song and post them to see if we can guess the song and the artist.
Well...this is from my favourite album, so...close enough--
" Outside my window
Not long before sleep arrives
They come with their sirens
And they sweep away all the boys
Busy draining the joy from their lives
They never said their prayers out loud"

The Best Of
Very bored here... going to make a list of my favourite songs from every (or most of) album by Elvis Costello and see how weird my taste is.
But first... how I spent New Year's...
~Sulked because best friend went on trip without me, leaving me bored throughout almost entire month of December
~Tried to drink egg nog and thought better of it
~Tried to watch Twilight Zone marathon but ended up sulking because of missing friend
~High point of the evening: DURAN DURAN on Carson Daly's so-called New Year's special
~Watched Conan O'Brien, but it wasn't that funny--mostly in bad taste--and to my disappointment he didn't sing the "I'm Gonna Go to Hell when I Die" song...
~Sulked.
Now for that "my favourite songs on every album" list thingie I'm doing out of complete boredom. Let's see what odd, uneducated taste I have.
My Aim is True: (Don't like it as much as most fans should...)

Next Time Around
(getting bored with this list now...)

The Delivery Man:
Country Darkness
Bedlam
The Delivery Man
Monkey To Man (favourite from this album)
The Name Of This Thing Is Not Love
Finished. Finally. Waste of time, but at least I was doing something mildly productive. This list proves that I seem to prefer opening tracks. I wonder how weird this would seem in the eyes of a Costello expert.

Watch "The Young Ones", 80's BBC show, and wish they'd made more than 12 episodes.
Drool over wonderful King of America cover.
Kidnap Elvis AND Justin Lodgey AND Paul to preserve sanity and ward off post-concert depression.
Pretty much try to stay in a constant state of confusion (like Johnny Depp) just because of the expression it leaves on my face.
Protest War
(feeling a little ambitious, are we?)
