They Say it's Your Birthday...
I must pay tribute to my favourite Beatle.
This is the CD mix I made a few years ago. It was kind of my version of a Concert for George.
I will have to do a part 2 eventually. I didn't have "33 1/3" on CD then, so this is lacking a few gems. I also didn't have the early Beatles songs in anything but the annoying fake stereo separation, so I must remedy that as well.
1. This is Love 2. When We Was Fab 3. Handle With Care 4. The End of the Line 5. The End of the Line (Demo) 6. What is Life 7. My Sweet Lord 8. Awaiting On You All 9. Apple Scruffs 10. All Things Must Pass 11. You 12. Dark Horse 13. Taxman 14. If I Needed Someone 15. Think For Yourself 16. While My Guitar Gently Weeps 17. Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth) 18. Something

Blood & Chocolat
New favourite movie character. For now at least. He had just a small part, but...
As a friend might say, "you know where you can put that tongue."
Like I said...he has a small part but who cares? You can't get much better than an Irish guitar-playing pirate-type guy who looks like this.
The pirate-type part is very Johnny Depp. But... an Irish guitar player?
Oh, great. I think the only reason I loved the character is because that reminded me of Elvis Costello.

Get Happy?
Actually I just need to "Get Well!!" I despise this flu-like thing. I'm miserable. So in a way I guess it's ironic that, all day, I keep listening to an album that's called this...
What I really hate about being sick is...you can't sleep. Because getting relaxed would actually involve a little thing called breathing, something I can't currently do all that well. And songs play in your head all night as you toss and turn. Never any songs that would relax you, either.
The most annoying thing is to have a song in your head that you barely know. You keep hearing fragments and you're frustrated because you can't remember anymore. This was what kept me awake 2 nights ago (a song where I can't even remember the Costello version, as I knew the Dave Edmunds one first, but still hardly even knew it):
"There are some things you can't cover up with lipstick and powder (Something something something) Don't come any closer, don't come any nearer (Something something) Girls Talk (Something something) Girls Talk."
Worse is if you know a song, but have only ONE line playing over and over in your head. This is what plagued me in that way: "When you were looking at the black and white world When you were looking at the black and white world...."
I need to TURN OFF Get Happy!!
Coincidentally, Top Five on Friday from Music Memoirs is Top 5 Songs That Can Put You To Sleep.
So here are songs I probably needed at bedtime every night this week.
1. Justin Hayward - Bright Eyes 2. Elvis Costello - Please Stay 3. Justin Hayward - Moving Mountains 4. Elvis Costello - Favourite Hour 5. The Moody Blues - Had to Fall in Love
I'm not creative today. That list was not varied at all.

Watching the Grammys
I don't know why I'm going to watch the Grammys. I already know that all I'm going to see are wins by Green Day, U2, and Josh Groban. (Don't get me wrong... U2 is a good group... but "Vertigo" is definitely getting on my nerves.) There's not much point in this.
I could say I'd be watching it to see my Elvis, but I don't think he's going to be there. He's supposed to be in concert today. And why bother cancelling a perfectly good concert to come to this show which mostly only awards mediocrity, just to ultimately lose because you're not young and pretty? Is there any point in doing that? I didn't think so.
Enough of that. Time for a late Top Five on Friday from Music Memoirs.
Top Five Love Songs 1. Justin Hayward - Who Are You Now 2. Elvis Costello - Sweet Pear 3. The Beatles - Something 4. The Moody Blues - Your Wildest Dreams 5. The Beatles - And I Love Her
Top Five Love Songs You Hate 1. Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On (the obvious choice...I had to use it) 2. Dan Hill - Sometimes When We Touch 3. Olivia Newton-John - I Honestly Love You 4. Stevie Wonder - I Just Called to Say I Love You 5. Natalie Imbruglia - Torn

I Miss Paul
There's nothing much going on over here; in fact the last interesting thing that happened was watching Paul McCartney at ther Super Bowl.
That was very much a great show. Although it is very wrong to try to squeeze a Paul concert into 10 minutes! I was sad when it ended, so that's my only complaint. Although I notice the annoying grammar problem in Live and Let Die every time... "This ever-changing world IN which we live IN." (I hate it when I become a Grammar Nazi.)
So that's the interesting part of my week. Other than that, there's been a bit of freaking out over concerts...because driving all night will be necessary if I want to attend the shows I have tickets for....
And I've spent the last 48 hours in a boring argument with a friend over how you pronounce Elvis Costello's real name. (Which syllable is stressed in "Declan"?)

The Post-It Game?
Apparently, or so it says here, celebrities like to play "Guess Which Celebrity Name I've Got Stuck to My Head". It seemed a little strange to read that Elvis and wife were playing it, but then I found something mildly frightening...
Ummm...yeah. Hope the Costellos had fun being Sonny and Cher.
Because, you probably can't see it, but EC's post-it says "Cher."

(Late) Top Five on Friday
From...you guessed it...Music Memoirs again.
Top Five Movie Soundtracks/Or Scores. (Feel free to tell us why you made your choices, so that we could check out your recommendations)
Not in any order.
1. High Fidelity-
How I knew the song "Shipbuilding" before really liking Elvis Costello.
2. Moulin Rouge-
I confess to having both volumes.
3. A Knight's Tale-
The main reason for having this is Golden Years, probably my favourite David Bowie song.
4. De-Lovely-
I'm proud of myself for listening to more than just Elvis Costello's song.
5. Pirates of the Caribbean-
It's just an orchestral score, but I actually really like it.

Watch "The Young Ones", 80's BBC show, and wish they'd made more than 12 episodes.
Drool over wonderful King of America cover.
Kidnap Elvis AND Justin Lodgey AND Paul to preserve sanity and ward off post-concert depression.
Pretty much try to stay in a constant state of confusion (like Johnny Depp) just because of the expression it leaves on my face.
Protest War
(feeling a little ambitious, are we?)
