Top Five meme
I've been sick...again...and that made me too lazy to post this week. I seem to get sick every other month. Fortunately March spared me--I wouldn't have wanted to drag my ill, feverish self to see Elvis Costello... (ok, maybe I was feverish anyway). At any rate coughing and blowing your nose through a concert is not polite... unless you're Justin Hayward and it's your concert, and you're sick yet again and have to blow your nose on stage. (Which he has done.)
How did I get so sidetracked...?
Back to that Music Memoirs meme. Top five songs with "Angels" in the title:
Elvis Costello - The Angels Wanna Wear My Red Shoes
Duran Duran - Falling Angel
Elvis Costello - Running Out of Angels
Justin Hayward/Nana Mouskouri - Morning Angel
Justin Hayward/Annie Haslam - The Angels Cry
I cheat... using the same people so many times! Odd that so many of Justin's collaborations involve "angel" songs though...

Top Five on Friday
Brought to you by Music Memoirs.
Top five songs with a name in the title. Uh oh. The first song I could think of was by Justin Hayward, but I'm not going to use it, because I don't particularly like the subject... um, I mean...the name.
Elvis Costello - Veronica
The Beatles - Martha My Dear (It's about a dog, but...)
The Moody Blues - Emily's Song
The Beatles - Michelle
Elvis Costello - Nothing Clings Like Ivy
I've decided to leave out the obvious like EC's "Alison." But suddenly the ideas are pouring in. It's so hard to pick between Beatles songs because there are more good or fun ones, like "Julia" and "Lovely Rita".... Then there's Nick Lowe-- I just heard his song called "Maureen" the other day, but can't actually remember how it goes.
That was fun. :)

The Interview
No, not an interview with someone fascinating like Justin Hayward or Elvis Costello... I'm finally getting around to answering these interview questions that The Music Whore so kindly prepared for me.
1. Tell us something about yourself that we don't already know. Oh...um... what kind of thing? How about...I once spent around $70 on an 8x10 photo. (Can you tell I can't think of anything really personal?)
2. We know you like Elvis Costello and the Moody Blues, what other bands do you listen to regularly? Regularly? Everyone probably knows this answer, but The Beatles (and most of the band members' solo albums)... The Monkees, but not exactly regularly... David Bowie, sort of, not really, but I recently got his "best of" CD... and now Duran Duran, although it's just one CD that I've been playing.
3. What are some of your hobbies? Besides listening to the same bands over and over again? Art...though I never talk about it here. I paint and draw constantly. And writing (actual writing, not blogging). And playing guitar... I love my guitar.
4. Why do you blog? I don't know how to answer that. Not many people would really care about what I have to say--since most of what I have to say is "I heard such-and-such song by Elvis today...." I suppose it just entertains me. And it's nice to have a blog when you know other people with blogs.
5. What's worse...post concert depression or pre concert jitters and why? Post-concert depression, definitely.
Pre-concert jitters are mostly nervous excitement. It can often be a good thing (not counting the worries that something's going to go wrong, like being late and missing the show). When it's over, even though you can reminisce about it later, it's still OVER. All you can do is try not to obsess over missed photo opportunities (like: someone put my rose in their teeth and I was too shocked to move). And sometimes you don't know when you're going to get to go to another show.
So PCD is worse, and I can tell you that because I'm experiencing it at this moment.

Top Five on Friday
Once again here's a Music Memoirs meme.
Top five songs with names of "flowers" in the title.
Now, I apologize, but I'm going to shamelessly cheat. I sadly couldn't think of 5 songs so I'm going to include albums.
1. Elvis Costello - Good Year for the Roses 2. Nick Lowe - The Rose of England
Then I got stuck. So I came up with these albums instead.
3. Elvis Costello - Mighty Like a Rose 4. Paul McCartney - Flowers in the Dirt 5. Paul McCartney/Wings - Red Rose Speedway
And if all these albums and roses aren't good then how about song lyrics? "You're selling me tulips mistaken for lilies...."

Rant Time
Well, when I got off the phone guess what news was waiting for me on a certain website? Moody Blues tickets for the show I was considering go on sale soon. I think I'm going to go for it.
The sale is Friday. Presale's Thursday, which I'm not registered for. But I don't need amazing seats to enjoy this one. I'm only obsessed with amazing seats when it comes to Mr. Costello. ...Right?
I'm putting my ticket fate into someone else's hands. Whichever day it is, I won't be able to get on the computer and order them. I don't particularly trust this person with the computer, but I have little choice.
I wouldn't mind having nice seats, though.
It would be very nice if I did.
Hmmm.
It's good to know I still care.

Better Late Than Never
Time for two more memes...since I can't do anything else... (I'd like to get on my IM right now but the phone won't stop ringing...)
Top Five on Friday (Music Memoirs): Top 5 Road Trip Albums This is tricky. I usually make mixes for road trips, but...
Elvis Costello - Brutal Youth. Even though I accidentally start to speed when Pony St. is on.
The Moody Blues - Keys of the Kingdom
Elvis Costello - Armed Forces. Because the first time I listened to it I was taking a road trip.
The Monkees - The Monkees. Very fun with songs like the Theme and Last Train to Clarksville.
The Moody Blues - Strange Times. I wasn't going to put them again but English Sunset and Foolish Love are great car songs.
Top 5 Songs You Sing At The Top Of Your Lungs
Elvis Costello - Man Out of Time
The Cure - Friday I'm in Love
The Moody Blues - Your Wildest Dreams
Billy Joel - My Life
Elvis Costello - Crimes of Paris
One more- Take Me Back Tuesday:
Name three Elton John ballads. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Come Down in Time Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me
Name three Elton John songs that never fail to make your feet move. Club at the End of the Street (I used to love this song) Take Me to the Pilot Saturday Night's All Right for Fighting
Name three artists who have covered Elton John songs. I'll try not to use Ewan McGregor - Your Song (I can't help it if I love Moulin Rouge)...
The Who - Saturday Night's All Right for Fighting Billy Joel - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road George Michael - Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me
Bonus - name Sir Elton's collaborative partner - his songwriting partner that is. Bernie Taupin

My Most Hated Task (this is a long post...it was supposed to go up last night...grr)
Despite my meme insanity, this has actually been a pretty bad week. Busy all the time, and my usual wretched schedule which forces me to have lunch at 2 pm. To top it all off, I had a dentist appointment Tuesday, which is my Most Hated Task, considering I have a very large fear of going to the dentist.
My best way to cope with it is to hide under a pair of headphones the entire time they're inflicting severe pain on my mouth (and it's only a cleaning--I unfortunately have very sensitive teeth). So in that way I figured Elvis Costello would help me; he's louder than my Moody Blues CDs were so he I thought he'd be distracting.
EC also went to the dentist the other day for a procedure worse than anything I'd need to have done--though I've experienced awful procedures in the past. Note his swollen left cheek:
The point is, I loathe the dentist with every fiber of my being. But the cleaning lady (whatever you'd call her), as she prepared to inflict severe pain on my mouth, got very interested in my walkman. Asked who I was listening to, and then said she used to like EC a bit. Wanted to use my headphones, then loved "Pump it Up" so much that she got a boombox and stole my CD--playing it for all the dentist office to hear.
Problem is, when the music's on a regular CD player and not my headphones, I can't really hear it above the dental equipment. But you've gotta love the insane "anything goes" tracklist of that mix CD that the dentist office was subjected to: 1. 13 Steps Lead Down 2. You Little Fool 3. Pump it Up 4. Imperial Bedroom 5. Pony St. 6. Chewing Gum 7. Life Shrinks 8. Town Cryer (Disco Version) 9. Running Out of Fools 10. Poisoned Letter 11. I Turn Around 12. London's Brilliant Parade 13. Let's Misbehave
Not a good introduction to Elvis. While the cleaning woman was gushing about his talent and his "message," his throwaway song Poisoned Letter was on, and he was snarling "I'm all cut up about it, you little prick." And I don't know how the woman stomached the disco Town Cryer (I can, but I'm odd). And I had to sit there in pain while this woman stuck her fingers in my mouth while trying to hum along.
Then the actual dentist came in. He's a much much older man. Dentist: Did he do "Rock Around the Clock"? Me: No. Dentist: "Silent Night"? Me: No...(?!?) Dentist: I'm having trouble placing him... oh, is he that goofy-looking guy? Me (through gritted teeth): Yeah.
Then the woman and the elderly dentist proceeded to do modern dance moves to, bizarrely, "London's Brilliant Parade."
While I sat there with my mouth throbbing, no less. Dear Lord, but I'm traumatized.
Did having the entire office listen to my weird taste in music make my Most Hated Task any better?
...Not really.

More Uselss Fun
I have about 3 memes I need to do but no time to do them right now. So I'll do the shortest one now.
I don't remember where I found this but you pick one band/artist and answer the questions using their song titles. I'm picking Elvis Costello of course.
1. Are you male or female?: Sulky Girl 2. Describe yourself: Town Cryer 3. How do some people feel about you?: The Greatest Thing (not really) 4. Describe your girlfriend/boyfriend/interest: All This Useless Beauty 5. How do you feel about yourself?: You Little Fool 6. Where would you rather be?: Clubland 7. Describe what you want to be: I Wanna be Loved 8. Describe how you live: You Tripped at Every Step 9. Describe how you love: Love Went Mad 10. Share a few words of wisdom: Watch Your Step

Top Five
4th post in a row with a Music Memoirs meme. Have to hurry because the power keeps going off. Snowy and windy and awful here. If power stays off, I'm going to scream. (And get out the battery-powered cd player.) 2 yrs ago I spent Xmas day, and 3 days after it, with no power whatsoever due to a storm. Hated it so, so much. I'm dependent upon electricity, apparently.
Anyway. Here we go. Top Five Sunshine Songs (Songs with "Sun" in the title)
The Moody Blues - The Sunset
The Beatles - The Sun King (thought of a different one than the obvious)
Elton John - Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me
Cream - Sunshine of Your Love
(OK...I'm stuck. Taking the easy way out.) The Beatles - Here Comes the Sun

Watch "The Young Ones", 80's BBC show, and wish they'd made more than 12 episodes.
Drool over wonderful King of America cover.
Kidnap Elvis AND Justin Lodgey AND Paul to preserve sanity and ward off post-concert depression.
Pretty much try to stay in a constant state of confusion (like Johnny Depp) just because of the expression it leaves on my face.
Protest War
(feeling a little ambitious, are we?)
