    While I'm at it...

I just read that Elvis did "I Want You" in concert on the 26th. How dare he perform that when I'm not there! I've never heard it live and at this rate I never will.

But I will forgive him because he's so lovely.

    Top Five on Friday

I'm finally able to do a Music Memoirs meme. I have been missing them :(

Top Five "Weekend" Songs (Interpret as you like):

The Moody Blues - Here Comes the Weekend

Elvis Costello & Jimmy Cliff - Seven Day Weekend (it helps that I bought the 45 rpm of this in a little shop while on vacation)

    The Monkees - Saturday's Child

The Beatles - The Night Before (just because it's fun)

The Clash - Rock the Casbah (same reason)

    The Imposters...leaving the Late Show

Pete, smiling in my direction since nobody else recognized him.

Steve with his dry cleaning, apparently.

    The King approaches.

10 Days in New York: 1 day of the Moody Blues, 3 days of Elvis Costello

I still can't believe the trip I just had. I got back about an hour ago due to flight delays, and it's ridiculous to be on here this late but I can't really wait. (I'd planned on returning yesterday, but that got changed and coincidentally led to some of the best days of the vacation.)

I haven't loaded any pix into the computer yet. When I do, part of me will be disappointed because of my Moodies results. Here's briefly how that show went... I was exhausted from the flight the previous day: a 1 1/2 hour flight turned into 5 hours on that plane due to storms near La Guardia, forcing a landing in Allentown PA. So the next day I staggered into Radio City only to be met with one of the tightest security situations I've ever encountered. I snuck the camera in but suffice it to say that I got one shot of Justin with a blurry Lodgey in the background, and one shot of Graeme dancing with Rockettes before the security guard approached (I was sitting far left, Norda's side, practically in the guard's lap). Very very unlucky.

I may have got more after the show using a disposable camera. I don't know if they'll come out. My digital's batteries had gone dead for reasons I don't understand. However, I got 3 autographs (even if Justin does not know know to smile or act like a human being!) and got my hand held by wonderful Lodgey, who didn't have a pen, so I had to hand him mine a few times. John is a saint. By far, the best after-show experience ever, even if Justin and Graeme are the defintion of "squirrelly."

To be as brief as possible, I ended up going to my Elvis concert, but I also watched him come out of the Letterman show (I couldn't get tickets), and then went to the taping of the Today Show. The Letterman thing, which happened by pure chance, resulted in an autograph and shaking of EC's hand (even if I did ask for permission first...a hug was out of the question, due to the barriers).

I have about 20 shots of him from the concert (great ones, I hope) and 20 from the Today Show (grainy due to digital zoom); both had virtually no security. Cameras were allowed.

I was so far back for the Today Show but I don't even care. I hardly even mind Emmylou anymore. I had 3 days of Elvis, something I never expected.

I have never been so lucky.

    I Wanna Be Sedated

I leave for my vacation tomorrow and it is absolutely crazy here. I *think* I'm almost done packing, but I only started yesterday. I even made two mix CDs: one with a New Wave/Punk theme which included Elvis Costello (only one song this time- I have self-control), Nick Lowe, The Clash, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, The Jam, etc.

The other, which I named after the first track, was all about EC, and the cover art is the plainest I've ever made:

    but it still amuses me.

I've packed shirts to last about two weeks even though I'll be back on the 21st. I have no restraint. I don't even know what to wear to the concerts because... SQUEE... I'm going to see The Moody Blues at Radio City and Elvis Costello! And I have to go to the record shops on Bleecker street, and run around Manhattan and Central Park (which is where the Elvis concert is taking place). Oh...well, I'm going to see family, too... (Don't you love my priorities?)

So today has been a hectic combination of packing, CD burning, cleaning the cats' litterbox (such fun), and finding a bag big enough to hold all the music I'm taking without making it too heavy to carry on the plane.

I've seen many things in this park over the years but never one of my favorite things.

    Central Park

    +

    =SQUEE

Maybe I'll even get more photos like that last one, or of the lovely Justin Hayward and John Lodge, though I doubt it.

So to paraphrase a song there's twenty-four (more like 12) hours to go...and I want, no I need, to be sedated.

    Less than a week left...

Next Wednesday I'll be leaving for my trip, where I'll have one week to cram in all the great NY places (including famous record stores)... Of course the second day I'm there is for my Moody Blues concert, and the second-to-last day will be for the Elvis Costello concert.

I have to charge the batteries for my digital camera (in case the venue security goes easy on me), choose which outfits to pack out of the many I just bought (too many), not to mention make two mix CDs: one of EC songs and one that somehow includes Nick Lowe.

So what am I doing now that I actually have a little free time? Playing with the computer and sitting through "TRL" on MTV because Johnny Depp is supposed to show up.

I think I'll be seeing this movie while on my trip, if there's time.

    Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

But this isn't helping me prepare at all. I haven't charged the batteries, packed, or made any CDs.

These men have permission to punish me

    Another meme

Believe it or not, I'm doing another meme today. Two posts in one day is rare for me, but I'm stealing this one from the Music Whore.

    1. Total amount of music on your computer.
If I do a search on the computer I get 903 files. That's because I listen to CDs on the computer all the time but usually don't bother to rip the tracks.

    2. Last CD you bought
    I bought 3, all used...
The Jam - All Mod Cons

Elvis Costello - Girls+?/Girls=$+Girls (didn't really need it)

Elvis Costello - Out of Our Idiot (didn't need it either)

    3. What is the last song you listened to before reading this message?
Elvis Costello - Daddy Can I Turn This?

    4. 5 songs you listen to often, or mean a lot to you.
    The Moody Blues - Driftwood
Elvis Costello - Couldn't Call it Unexpected no.4 (I mention this song far too often).
Justin Hayward - The Land of Make-Believe
    Simon & Garfunkel - America
Elvis Costello - The Other Side of Summer (can't stop listening to that recently)

While I'm at it, here's how many pictures I have saved to the computer (not counting disks and less-significant people)
    The Moody Blues: 5876
    Johnny Depp: 1789
    Elvis Costello: 3746

    Suddenly I feel very silly.

    Top Five on Friday

From who else...Music Memoirs! I'll try to do this even though typing is actually painful to my fingers, which hurt from playing guitar...

Top five songs with animals in the title.

Elvis Costello - Monkey to Man

The Moody Blues - Tortoise and the Hare

The Monkees - Gonna Buy Me a Dog

Justin Hayward - Silverbird (songs where he mentions birds in the lyrics are now popping into my head)

    The Beatles - Hey Bulldog
