New Year's Meme
Ok, I was going to do the Top Five from Music Memoirs, but I don't really know what my Musical Resolutions are, other than buying some of the CDs I mentioned in my last post. And I've already got an Elvis Costello show planned for the Spring. So instead of the meme, I'm going to steal an idea from the Music Whore and mention a few Musical Highlights from this past year, using photos.
~My first EC concert(s) in March. The first venue was awful, but everything about Knoxville was perfect. Then I met him after the show. This was probably my best concert experience, period.
~Seeing The Moody Blues in July was definitely a highlight, even if the security guards bothered me about my camera (while letting a woman with a huge old camera go to the front row because she knew how to flirt). But I did get my record sleeve autographed, and better still, I got my hand held by this man:
~ A few days after The Moodies I was lucky enough to see EC again, at Summerstage, with Emmylou Harris.
~Then I decided to be a nutter, and waited for him outside the Letterman Show 2 days later. It paid off: I got his autograph. And he smiled at me (and I immediately turned into a PUDDLE OF GOO).
(here he is signing someone else's thing... That day I also learned that drummer Pete Thomas is pretty darn adorable... and that Elvis's jacket is very soft)
~The next day I went to see him and Emmylou on The Today Show. With the camera zoom on:
My actual view:
(finding Elvis in this photo is like playing "Where's Waldo?")
~Even if this year wasn't great otherwise, and I found myself complaining a lot about various things, it was a fantastic year for music. In fact, for me this was the best year for music, period. I hope 2006 is even half as magical.
HAPPY NEW YEAR :D

Top Five on Friday
I'm going to do this week's Music Memoirs meme now, even though I should be in bed. (I'm not in bed because this silly 20 Questions game site is darn addictive! Especially the Music game.)
Top 5 "Festive" songs :
The Pogues - Fairytale of New York (I've mentioned this one before. It's festive for a drunken Irish take on Christmas Eve, and who can resist that? Not me.)
The Moody Blues - Don't Need a Reindeer (I even got my best friend addicted to this one!)
Hall and Oates - Jingle Bell Rock (I heard this in the ice cream store today... and before you ask, yes I did buy ice cream in the middle of winter)
Diana Krall - Sleigh Ride (Can you believe it?)
and finally...
Paul McCartney - Wonderful Christmastime

Top Five on Friday
A tricky one this week from Music Memoirs.
Top 5 "Musical" gifts you'd like to receive this year" :
1. Elvis Costello
(That one was easy)
2. This CD:
3. I've always thought I was better off with my walkman and endless CD collection rather than try to put all of it in the computer and put it from there into an mp3 player. And I never use the mp3 player I have since you can't tell what track you're on. But now I'm starting to feel like an idiot. See, i-pods can't be all bad if Diana Krall and Elvis Costello both have one. So maybe I should break down and get one too.
4. This CD, or something similar
(Are they too English for American music stores? Why can't I find them anywhere?)
5. A new music store. I drove for an hour today to go shopping, only to find that my last resource for CDs, Media Play, is going out of business. Looks like everything is going to have to come from Amazon from now on. I really hate ordering music online. I have a fondness for record stores.

Randomness
~I'm snowed in again. I somehow don't enjoy the part where you have to eat macaroni and cheese or frozen pizza every night.
~I heard "Isn't Life Strange" by The Moody Blues in a restaurant earlier this week. I've also heard, oddly enough, "For My Lady" there.
~I bought this album, and you should too.
(Not something I had really expected to say a month ago.)
~And to amuse myself while stuck in the house, I'm reading this

Top Five on Friday
I've been remiss in keeping up with the memes from Music Memoirs. But now that I'm snowed in, I have a chance to do this one, and the theme is very appropriate for my current situation.
In honor of the first major snow storm of the year.
Top Five "Winter" Songs:
The Moody Blues - December Snow
The Bangles - Hazy Shade of Winter
Nick Lowe - Freezing
The Eurythmics - Winter Wonderland (mostly because I heard it in a restaurant last week...)
Elvis Costello - North

Watch "The Young Ones", 80's BBC show, and wish they'd made more than 12 episodes.
Drool over wonderful King of America cover.
Kidnap Elvis AND Justin Lodgey AND Paul to preserve sanity and ward off post-concert depression.
Pretty much try to stay in a constant state of confusion (like Johnny Depp) just because of the expression it leaves on my face.
Protest War
(feeling a little ambitious, are we?)
