    Another Rambling...

~I don't know how I've managed to read so much lately. I've gotten through practically the whole Sophie Kinsella "Shopaholic" series. If you want a light, funny, English book, read these. I managed to fit them into my annoying schedule.

~Why am I reading an Elvis Costello biography? It's not enjoyable. I knew it wouldn't be. It's so much easier to be sympathetic to all the stupid things he's done when it's him who's talking about them and not some author.

And why interview Bruce Thomas yet again? If anyone cares about his opinions they can read *his* book. And why do all biographers interview a certain annoying model, then become enamoured with her and make her look like the victim in all these stories?

~The car stereo dosesn't like CDs with paper labels. I put an Elvis Costello live show in there. and due to the paper label, it got stuck. I had to pull it out with tweezers. The CD obviously got scratched by the tweezers on the outer edge. I think it's safe to assume I won't be hearing "Hora Decubitis" on that disc again.

~What does the song "Bright Blue Times" sound like?

~I'm bad at giving advice. When I should have been helping my friend figure out how to break up with some guy, my mind went blank. Maybe because I wouldn't know about that kind of situation, now would I.

    Top Five on Friday

Late again, of course. I hope everyone at Music Memoirs forgives me!

    Top 5 "Pop" Songs:

The Monkees - Mary Mary (60s pop... after hearing Run DMC do it very strangely on VH1 the other day, I remembered just how good the Monkees' version was)

Prince - Pop Life (Elvis Costello's version got me to like this song)

Duran Duran - Is There Something I Should Know (more 80s pop)

Rembrandts - I'll Be There for You (the Friends theme, one of the few 90s pop songs I can admit to liking)

Elvis Costello - Veronica (this needs no explanation)

    Late "Take Me Back Tuesday"

Before I get to this meme I feel like mentioning that I've been listening to a lot of Elvis Costello/ Steve Nieve shows from '96 lately. For some reason, they're like potato chips: all pretty much alike, but you can't have just one. Really, they're incredibly similar, but I can't get enough of them. I want more. (It might just be that I love their guitar/piano versions of the All This Useless Beauty songs....)

Take Me Back Tuesday - Week 54

    Rain rain go away...

Name three songs that chase away the rainy day blahs.
The Moody Blues - Lovely to See You

The Beatles - Here Comes the Sun

The Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go

Name three artists that cheer you on a rainy day.
    Elvis Costello

The Monkees (ironically the last song of theirs I heard was "Early Morning Blues and Greens" the other day...which is quite a depressing one!)

The Moody Blues (but John Lodge is more likely to cheer me up)

Name three albums with sunny titles.
The Doors - Waiting for the Sun (I don't especially like it, but...)

The Animals - House of the Rising Sun

    .......

What's the matter with me? I've got "You Lie Sweetly" stuck in my head and I can't think of another album title!

    Top Five on Friday

Once again, from Music Memoirs. Later I might catch up on some of the ones I missed last week....

Top 5 "royal" songs. (songs with kings, queens etc in the title):

The Moody Blues - King and Queen

The Police - King of Pain

Elvis Costello - King of Confidence (and King Horse)

The Hollies - King Midas in Reverse

    Queen - Killer Queen

King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King

That's more than 5, but I had fun with that!
