Elvis is King
I wasn't incredibly excited about seeing Elvis Costello in Atlanta, but I ended up really enjoying it. I should have known-- I always love Elvis. I expected the suite from Il Sogno to drag on and on, but it was interesting enough and ended before I expected, so I imagine I got fairly involved in it.
The so-called "Fabulous Fox Theatre" was actually gorgeous. The balcony was decorated to look like an Elizabethan theatre with one of those old imitation-night sky ceilings...
But it was worth going there just to hear Elvis say "The Fabulous Fox Theatre" in that amused/snide way he has... (much the same way he said "Charlotte" when he came to play in the worst part of that town).
I'd only seen him do rock 'n' roll shows up to this point, but the crooner/balladeer side of him is definitely worth experiencing. Seeing him and Steve Nieve backed by a symphony is fascinating, even if the audience didn't follow EC's suggestion of "take your clothes off and set your hair on fire". He'll make you swoon with "God Give Me Strength" and give you chills with "The Birds Will Still Be Singing".
I have more pictures from after the show, since security wasn't as Nazi-like as in NY or other places (Maybe it's a Southern thing?) . Including one of Elvis and yours truly, which proved what an idiot I am-- he had his arm around me and I didn't know until I saw the photo. I DIDN'T EVEN FEEL IT...
So if you ever get the chance to see Elvis Costello with an orchestra, I suggest you take it. He sounded amazing even after, according to him, three hours of sleep and only a few hours' rehearsal with the orchestra.

ARGH
One day until my Elvis Costello concert and I lost the new memory card for my camera.
I am an idiot.
It had a larger memory than my old one. It's never been used. But oh well, it's gone now.
And I want to be more excited about this concert than I am. But for one thing it's a big pain to go down to Georgia. And I miss New York. I miss the Pogues too. And I want Elvis to do a rock 'n' roll show. (Which he's not doing.)
I feel like I'm forgetting about fifteen things right now. That doesn't bode well.
I hope things go better tomorrow. I lost a very expensive card but... I'm going to see Elvis... so yay for me. I suppose.

Late Top Five, etc
Almost a week late... oye! I hope the ladies at Music Memoirs forgive me.
But first... I found the cutest/weirdest video clip of Elvis Costello singing Oliver's Army on some old TV show. He is wearing a shiny green suit and the show's set design is enough to give you a seizure.
So...I pretty much love Youtube. You must watch this clip.
Ok... the meme. Top 5 songs that "answer" the musical question: Where do we go from here?:
Elvis Costello - Rocking Horse Road
The Moody Blues - The Land of Make Believe
The Pogues - Dirty Old Town
The Jam - In the City
The Clash - Garageland

Watch "The Young Ones", 80's BBC show, and wish they'd made more than 12 episodes.
Drool over wonderful King of America cover.
Kidnap Elvis AND Justin Lodgey AND Paul to preserve sanity and ward off post-concert depression.
Pretty much try to stay in a constant state of confusion (like Johnny Depp) just because of the expression it leaves on my face.
Protest War
(feeling a little ambitious, are we?)
