    Top 5 On Friday

    Music Memoirs instructs:

First: Pick 5 of your favorite artists.
Second: Pick your favorite song off their last album. (if their last album was a greatest hits album...go to their last studio album)

    Elvis Costello-
    The River in Reverse

    Tears Tears and More Tears

    Paul McCartney-
Chaos & Creation in the Backyard

    English Tea

    Shane MacGowan-
    Crock of Gold

    Lonesome Highway

    The Moody Blues-
    December

    Don't Need a Reindeer

Duran Duran (since I'm watching them on TV right now)-
    Astronaut

What Happens Tomorrow (this song always reminds me of New Year's Eve...they played it on a show)

    Music Memoirs memes

Doing 2 of them today, since I've had a lot of music playing this weekend.

    First, Top Five on Friday.
Top 5 songs or albums that describe your current state of mind :
(Using titles here, not actual content.)

The Beatles - It's All Too Much

    The Beatles - Slow Down

The Moody Blues - What am I Doing Here

Elvis Costello/ Emmylou Harris - Sleepless Nights

(On a happy note... thinking of my upcoming concert(s?)...)
Justin Hayward - The Best is Yet to Come

    And Random Ten
10 songs that sum up your weekend or were on your weekend playlist :
It was a weekend of cover tunes.

Elvis Costello - King Midas in Reverse
    " " - American Girl
    " " - Ferry 'cross the Mersey
" " - His Latest Flame (one by the other Elvis!)
" " - A Certain Girl (w/ Allen Toussaint... saw it on the Bonnarroo webcast!)
" " - Yes We Can (same webcast)

    The Pogues - White Christmas
    " " - My Girl
" " - Got a Lot of Livin' to Do (more Elvis Presley)
    " " - Maggie May

At times like this I really wish I had the Elvis CD Such Unlikely Covers :(

    The River in Reverse

Allow me to ramble about this for a bit.

I like Elvis doing this style. I like the DVD that came with the album. I like the upbeat numbers.

I'm having to try very hard to like most of the rest. The opening track, for example, shouldn't be the opening track. When the disc finishes and my CD player starts to play it over again, I find I don't want to hear that song. It's lackluster, as beginnings go.

I shouldn't have to try to like something. If I'm going to love it, I'll know straight away. And sometimes things grow on me-- like The Delivery Man. Aside from a few tracks like "There's a Story in Your Voice" and "Heart-Shaped Bruise," I love it now. (Playing guitar along with it helped it to grow on me significantly.)

As for this album, I really like:
    Tears Tears and More Tears
Who's Gonna Help Brother Get Further
    International Echo
    Wonder Woman

As for a song called "Six Fingered Man," parts of it sound like the 1994 song "Rocking Horse Road" and yet Toussaint apparently wrote the music? That's hard to believe.

Anyway. I seem to be preferring the fast songs, and that's not a really fair way to judge the album. I'll admit "The Sharpest Thorn" sticks in my head quite a bit.

I'm not sure how I feel about this album. I definitely like the four tracks I mentioned, but I liked the title track better when I heard him play it live in Atlanta.

I'll just have to wait and see if Elvis can reverse my (and I am ashamed to say this) weak response to much of it.

    Top 5 on Friday

From the always entertaining Music Memoirs

Top 5 songs from a movie or Broadway show:

From The Boy From Oz - I Go to Rio (my favorite Broadway show out of the ones I've seen)

From Chess - One Night in Bangkok

From the Rocky Horror Picture Show - The Time Warp

From Grease - You're the One that I Want (well, I sort of like this one, I guess)

From Circle of Friends - You're the One, performed by Shane MacGowan and Moya Brennan. (Never seen the movie. Apparently it's based on a Maeve Binchy book.)

    Top 5 on Friday

I've missed a lot of memes, but I'll do this one. I should catch up on the others but I feel really blah

    From Music Memoirs:

Top 5 Songs that get you in the mood for your vacation or for traveling
(These won't make much sense to anyone reading this, but I have my own personal reasons for choosing them):

The Traveling Wilburys - The End of the Line

The Moody Blues - I Know You're Out There Somewhere

The Pogues - The Irish Rover

Elvis Costello - My Mood Swings

The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour

    *~Hi~*

    *~TO DO LIST~*

  • Watch "The Young Ones", 80's BBC show, and wish they'd made more than 12 episodes.

  • Drool over wonderful King of America cover.
  • Kidnap Elvis AND Justin Lodgey AND Paul to preserve sanity and ward off post-concert depression.
  • Pretty much try to stay in a constant state of confusion (like Johnny Depp) just because of the expression it leaves on my face.
  • Protest War (feeling a little ambitious, are we?)

  • *~WHATEVER~*

    The Parade of Progress Continues!

    *~Buy This Album~*

  • The Delivery Man

  • Chaos & Creation in the Backyard
