Top 5 on Friday
Taking a moment out of my regularly scheduled nervous exhaustion to do the Music Memoirs meme... ON TIME!
Top 5 "Musical" prized possessions...rare cd...autographs, instruments etc.
1. My autographed picture of Elvis Costello, signed by 2 of his band the Imposters and by EC himself, signed to me (and I had to spell my name for him!)
2. My autographed Pogues program, signed for me last October by 7 of 8 Pogues. (As you can see, I like autographs.)
3. My Elvis Costello picture disc of New Amsterdam. It's beautiful. If you know the video, it's a shot of him lying there holding the tulips.
4. My acoustic guitar. It has a gorgeous sound and it's blue-colored... which reminds me of the Moody Blues song "Blue Guitar" of course.
5. A copy of The Beatles' White Album on white vinyl, which was made in France I think.
Bonus:
If you could give your Meme Mistress one musical thing for her b-day on Monday what would it be?
Other than what I'm giving her anyway? Well.. I would get John Lodge or Gary Puckett or Elvis Costello (etc etc) to come give her the mandatory birthday spanking.
I should hold off on the birthday cake though... I'm sitting here eating cookies called Viennese Whirls and Jammie Dodgers and I'm going to get fat fat fat.

I'm not cut out for this
I've come to the conclusion that I'm just not built for this kind of thing. I can't keep up with other people's insane, superhuman-like pace. I can't go for 24 hours without sleep. Or food. It's just too much work. I think my fainting spell outside Parliament should attest to that.
Don't get me wrong, I am grateful to be here. I'm not going to blame the UK for my pains. If I'd come here under different circumstances, such as an actual vacation, then I'm 99.9% sure I'd be having the time of my life right now, or, as Elvis Costello says, having something quite like it.
I had to miss what could have potentially been a fun event because of my exhaustion. However, it's f-ing England, and I'm not going to give up. Just hearing the accents as people walk by gives me a little thrill. So what if I have to get up early and stuff my face with cheese crackers to avoid feeling dizzy during the day. I have gotten to do some really neat things. If I can just hang in there for just a little longer.......

Well, I'm Off
I leave you with the words of Mr. Elvis Costello...
Outside my window Not long before sleep arrives They come with their sirens And they sweep away all the boys Busy draining the joy from their lives They never said their prayers out loud
And while I'm dreaming There's a passing motor car That broadcasts a popular song And a girl appears to be saying "Do you think that I'm going to go far?"
Just look at me I'm having the time of my life Or something quite like it When I'm walking out and about In London's brilliant parade
She's one of those girls that you just can't place You feel guilty desiring such an innocent face But of course they knew that when they cast her Along with the red Routemaster And the film takes place in an MGB And a perfect re-creation of "The Speakeasy" Everybody looks happy and twisted Though she probably never existed For old times' sake Don't let me awake
I wouldn't want you to walk across Hungerford Bridge Especially at twilight Looking through the bolts and the girders Into the water below You'll never find your answer there
They sounded the "all-clear" in the occidental bazaar They used to call Oxford Street Now the bankrupt souls in the city Are finally tasting defeat
Don't look at me I'm having the time of my life Or something quite like it When I'm walking out and about In London's brilliant parade When I'm walking out and about In London's brilliant parade
From the gates of St. Mary's, there were horses in Olympia And a trolley bus in Fulham Broadway The lions and the tigers in Regents Park Couldn't pay their way And now they're not the only ones
At the Hammersmith Palais In Kensington and Camden Town There's a part that I used to play; The lovely Diorama is really part of the drama, I'd say

The Worst Day of My Life?
Yesterday I thought to myself, in complete seriousness, "This must be what hell is like."
I went to the dentist, thinking that I was going to have 2 teeth filled. That was enough to send me reeling and ruin a night's sleep for me. For me, side effects of going to the dentist include and are not limited to: Nausea, dizziness, and stomach cramps.
And that's before I even get to the office.
So, I tossed and turned all night worrying about them filling my severely decayed wisdom tooth. I had talked one dentist out of removing it last time. I'd never had any wisdom teeth removed. The thought of it makes me feel like I'm dying.
I get there and am told that the tooth is infected. That the root is exposed. And that it is absolutely necessary to remove the tooth. I honestly thought I was going to have a heart attack. I could see my heartbeat through my shirt for God's sake. I've come within an inch of fainting at the dentist before, and it nearly happened again.
I'm not sure I can ever listen to the following Elvis Costello songs again: Murder 101 w/ the Wallflowers, Wonder Woman, Tears Before Bedtime (Almost Blue version), and the Nick Lowe cover The Ugly Things. I had those songs on repeat as they were pulling my tooth.
So, 2 1/2 hours later it's done. The longest 2 1/2 hours of my pathetic little life, I can honestly say. After having my wisdom tooth tugged and jerked out of my gums, the dentist (a woman who I've never had before and never care to have again) filled the other tooth, which was exceedingly painful and took even longer than the extraction.
I'm tired of the taste of blood. I can't chew. Now I'm popping Advils and on medication for the infection.
I don't see how I can EVER do that again.

All Things Pepper
Ok, I got sucked in. I've been in such a Beatley mood lately--Beatles overdrive, more like--that I was poking around on the 'net and found the official "Beatles.com" page for the Sgt. Pepper Anniversary. I'm not especially excited about the anniversary.. it makes me a bit depressed to think of how old the album and the band actually are.
Still, I ordered a t-shirt from the website because Beatles shirts, when done right, are just darn irresistable.
As for Sgt. Pepper, it's hard to listen to straight through without picking up the needle and skipping a few songs or bits of songs...and I say "needle" because I had this album on vinyl first. (I probably learned to use a record player before I could walk.) One of my earliest, fondest memories is of examining the sleeve for that album, the pretty pictures, the lyrics.... And, of course, the Paul is Dead clues.
I even remember making up some Paul is Dead clues of my own, including something to the effect of "the wax statue of Ringo looks sad because Paul is dead, and wax Paul is comforting him" (I know, it's stupid, but I was a little kid, give me a break).
~Ok.. I've rambled about Pepper enough... but it's preferable to me rambling about everything else I did all day... which was basically getting yelled at by family members and yelling back, all for the most insignificant reasons. ~Why will no one go see Pirates of the Caribbean with me? ~Oh, and I'm going to England. This demands either a big SQUEE or a big HELP ME because I'm terrified of leaving the country and I would have next to no free time there to explore anyway. Probably the SQUEE is more accurate because I've wanted to go there since I was 5 and all the other problems such as "I'll basically have to do work every day I'm there" and "passports and time changes scare me" should be overshadowed by that.
I don't know if they are, but I know they should be...

Take Me Back Tuesday - Week 126
Brought to you by Music Memoirs
Take me back to the summer of love...1967 is the year....What albums would you be spinning...or did you spin (depending on your age)
The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (I have to put this, as it's the "40th Anniversary" and everything)
The Moody Blues - Days of Future Passed (The Justin/John version of The Moodies actually formed in 1967, I believe)
The Monkees - Headquarters
The Association - Insight Out
The Monkees or The Beatles...which would be..or which was your favorite band or do you like them both. I like them both, always have. I loved The Beatles first, and I know they really are the greatest band of all time, but I love The Monkees too and it really bothers me when people criticize them and say they didn't know how to play. (They knew how; but the record company wouldn't let them.) Even The Beatles liked The Monkees.
What song do you think sums up the feeling of the Summer Of Love the best? "If You're Going to San Francisco" - Scott McKenzie

Watch "The Young Ones", 80's BBC show, and wish they'd made more than 12 episodes.
Drool over wonderful King of America cover.
Kidnap Elvis AND Justin Lodgey AND Paul to preserve sanity and ward off post-concert depression.
Pretty much try to stay in a constant state of confusion (like Johnny Depp) just because of the expression it leaves on my face.
Protest War
(feeling a little ambitious, are we?)
