Top 5 on Friday from Music Memoirs
Top 5 songs that "perk" you up when you hear them.
The Beatles - Wait
Elvis Costello - I Can't Stand Up for Falling Down
The Rembrandts - Friends theme song (I'll Be There For You)
The Moody Blues - Lovely to See You
Duran Duran - Rio
Weird Bonus Answer: Lately, anything Johnny Depp sings perks me up (granted, the only songs he's ever sung are on the Sweeney Todd soundtrack)! But his voice is actually pretty and I keep listening to him sing, "I will have vennnnngeance..."

PS I Love You...
...is a bad bad movie title.
It is however a good movie, which surprised me. The title and the previews horribly misrepresented it: I thought it was going to be a romantic comedy, but while it had some comic relief, it was a really heavy film that explored some very deep issues. Mainly grief and loss.
And oddly, it explored those issues very well and effectively.
I also had no idea this movie was about Ireland, which was wonderful, and made it seem like a really gorgeous country (as I always imagine it to be. I love anything having to do with Ireland, so this was a bonus for me).
Also, it used TWO Pogues songs. That's a big SQUEE for me.
I hate Hillary Swank, so it's a huge accomplishment on the part of this movie that I actually enjoyed it. It's based on a novel by Cecelia Ahern, which I'm going to check out.
Also, while I'm being the movie critic here, I adore Sweeney Todd, even if I had to drive 1 1/2 hours to see it (the crappy theatre in my tiny town isn't getting it).
Johnny Depp is amazing (and sings beautifully), Tim Burton did an amazing job as usual, and even Helena Bonham Carter is amazing. Bottom line, go see this movie, immediately. One review described Johnny as riveting, and I think that's just about right.
No one could pull off a bloody musical better than Tim and Johnny.

Catching Up
Let's see how many Music Memoirs memes I can do in one sitting.
Tuesday Tunes - Week 15 Tuesday Tunes is back for the new year. I had a request for a music bit of word association. You know the drill. I'll post 10 words and you tell me the first song/album/band etc that comes to mind.
Cruel: Elvis Costello - When I Was Cruel Drunk: The Pogues - Streams of Whiskey Scared: Elvis Costello - God's Comic ("I was scared I was scared I was scared..." etc) Cover: KT Tunstall & Ed Harcourt - Fairytale of New York (I like KT, and with her singing Kirsty's part it's is probably the best cover of this song I've ever heard... although Ed Harcourt isn't so good.) Color: Bob Dylan - Tangled Up in Blue One: U2 - One Young: The Clash - All the Young Punks Punk: uh..... The Clash - All the Young Punks ! Age: Nick Lowe - At My Age (the album) Believe: The Moody Blues - Yes I Believe (by the way, I believe I haven't heard the song Yes I Believe in something like 1-2 years...)
Top 5 On Friday - Week 156 Top 5 "musical" resolutions.
1. Buy the CDs from Amazon that I've been meaning to get since forever. 2. Spend less money on concerts? Pssh. Like that's really going to happen. There are some crazy concert trips I went to last year that I didn't even discuss in great detail on this blog. 3. Don't abandon Elvis Costello... I still love his music, I just don't listen as often I used to. 4. Read the Eric Clapton biography I have (that's probably not going to happen any time soon either). 5. Hmm, I can't think of any more that I might actually do... except... Drool over this photo of Spider Stacy from the Pogues?
Tuesday Tunes - Week 14 It's all about Christmas!
What are your favorite traditional "Christmas Carols?" Silent Night, Do You Hear What I Hear, O Holy Night
What song best says "Christmas" to you? This question is too hard. There are so many that could fit.
What is your favorite modern Christmas song? The Pogues' "Fairytale of New York", hands down! I just bought the CD single and it has an instrumental version that is just GORGEOUS.
Do you have a favorite Christmas album? If so what is it? I still like The Moody Blues' "December" the best.

Watch "The Young Ones", 80's BBC show, and wish they'd made more than 12 episodes.
Drool over wonderful King of America cover.
Kidnap Elvis AND Justin Lodgey AND Paul to preserve sanity and ward off post-concert depression.
Pretty much try to stay in a constant state of confusion (like Johnny Depp) just because of the expression it leaves on my face.
Protest War
(feeling a little ambitious, are we?)
