Top 5 On Friday - Week 171
What a miserable day. I have a slight cold again, which wouldn't be a problem if I didn't have to go out tonight and do some work. Urgh. The only halfway decent part of today was the dream I had last night: I was playing "Rock This Town" by The Stray Cats on electric guitar. I don't even know those chords in real life.
Anyway...
From Music Memoirs
Top 5 break up songs:
Tom Petty - Feel A Whole Lot Better (Byrds cover)
Elvis Costello – I Hope You’re Happy Now
The Beatles – For No One
Scandal – Goodbye to You

Top 5 on Friday from Music Memoirs
Top 5 songs you wish had never been used in a TV commercial.
1. (And this is most definitely #1 on the list): The Beatles – Hello Goodbye in that Target commercial. It’s one of my most favorite songs, and to hear the remake in that commercial is just painful. “Good buy”? Shoot me please.
2. The Beatles – Revolution, in a Nike ad. I remember having a discussion about it years later with a fellow Beatles fan—“Michael Jackson would sell his own mother if he had the chance!”, they said, if I remember correctly. My sentiments exactly.
3. The Clash – Pressure Drop, in a Nissan commercial some months ago. The Clash would have hated that, too.
4. The Ramones – Blitzkrieg Bop, for Pepsi. (Just googled it to check the accuracy of my memory—it was Diet Pepsi. I think the Pepsi bottles were dancing or something.)
5. The Cars – Just What I Needed, for Circuit City. This really irked me, especially since the lyrics are so wrong for a commercial. The ad conveniently left out the “I needed someone to bleed.”

Tuesday Tunes
From the lovely Music Memoirs
Word association week: Remember name the first song/album/artist/musical style that comes to mind when you see the following 10 words.
Camera: Aztec Camera Married: Elvis Costello - North (uh, because it's about Diana, and he married her. A stretch? Well, it's the first thing I thought of.) Lost: The Moody Blues - Lost in a Lost World Grin: The Beach Boys - Smiley Smile Rest: Elvis Costello - I Want to Vanish ("now give me my rest...") Environment: Kirsty MacColl - Don't Go Near the Water (actually, written by the Beach Boys. And the lyrics are not that great. I'm glad she's not responsible for it.) Hippie: Scott McKenzie - If You're Going to San Francisco Betrayal: Elvis Costello - Betrayal Emotion: Smokey Robinson and the Miracles - I Second That Emotion Dream: The Beatles - #9 Dream

Watch "The Young Ones", 80's BBC show, and wish they'd made more than 12 episodes.
Drool over wonderful King of America cover.
Kidnap Elvis AND Justin Lodgey AND Paul to preserve sanity and ward off post-concert depression.
Pretty much try to stay in a constant state of confusion (like Johnny Depp) just because of the expression it leaves on my face.
Protest War
(feeling a little ambitious, are we?)
